We’re an organised family, perhaps overly so. I start thinking about Christmas gifts for my family from Boxing Day. I order goods as experience has taught me that delay oft leads to disappointment.
So, when darling daughter Kate raved about her Mahabis slippers I thought about my darling wife’s retirement padding about the house and thought “Great!”. Expensive, maybe – but comfortable and en point – a win. I know Heather’s shoe size, 38. As per their FAQ I ordered a bit smaller, 37. I hesitated a bit, but Kate had found smaller was better.
That was in September.
Modern retailers have long cottoned on that they want the Christmas gift market – and so have accepted that gift exchanges for months ago purchased items are inevitable if you want the sale. A trendy, web-oriented, North London retailer – I didn’t give it a second thought.
I should’ve given it that second thought.
Come Christmas, Heather opened her present – and laughed at me a bit for falling for a fashion. (There is nothing unusual in that.) But she tried them on and they were too small. I contacted Mahabis only to be told their standard return terms were 14 days with the extended term of one month leading up to Christmas. It’s all on their website, of course, so I could have known. Even better, had I been slightly more cautions, I’d have looked at Mahabis’ appalling customer service reviews before the purchase and backed away.
I have thanked Mahabis for teaching me a vital lesson in shopping. As a service to their prospective clients I thought I could help by sharing.
Anyone want “1x Larvik Dark Grey Mahabis Classic Bundle (+FREE soles) – 37 / gotland green“? They don’t fit me either. (Update: now sold.)
A similar experience for me too. Despite the e-mail to the customer service the advice was minimal and not successful. Having bought them as a Christmas present for my husband I was also caught out with the 14 day terms and conditions for refunds.

It is 2018. I fell into the same trap. Got the wrong size. Sent them back. No communication. They’ve kept my money and made no indication that the proper size is on the way. Customer service is slow and totally unresponsive. Apparently nothing has changed at Mahabis. Agree. Do not do business with these folks.

First of al it took ages for my daughter to get the gift card which isn’t really a card. Then I ordered and on Jan 8 the slippers were supposed ship via PS. It is now JAN 17 and they are just now being received by the PS. Hope I have my Christmas gift for spring! Very poor service and an expensive item. Hope my size is correct!

Mine fell apart after a few months as the sole had worn away the felt and the slipper sole had become loose and flappy. I was told the slippers aren’t designed to be worn with the soles all of the time, which, to my mind, takes away their feature and exclusivity. They offered me 10% off my next pair. I thought I’d give them a second try, but I won’t be going back. I think their quality has suffered as they have become more popular and their customer service is poor. the product is not premium, it only looks it. The classy ackaging belies what is within.

Ideally a company such as Mahabis, eg trying to do the right thing.

I am going to be spreading the word to avoid Mahabis. I bought some on 30th April this year. They fit and I loved them. Perhaps not quite as much as I thought – the removable sole is a gimmick and very fiddly. I gave up removing them and just kicked them off and slipped into Crocs to pop out to the washing line, garden gate etc. Just over 6 months later and the toes are worn through. That’s 6 warm months when they got less wear than they would in the rest of the year. Including one month I was away and didn’t wear them at all.
I sent an email to them this week and was asked for photos. Sent photos and was told nothing doing. Sent another email citing EU consumer law and was told it’s been too long, nothing doing.
An absolute disgrace, I sent my complaint just a few days beyond 6 months, and in any case a product marketed and priced as a premium product should last.
Really horrified by the quality and utterly shoddy customer service. They clearly make enough money that they don’t care about customers or their brand. They deserve to fail.

I never received mine, then tried to contact them via the info address and never heard back from them after two emails. Very disappointed have now opened a case with PayPal to get my money back. If you do decide to buy from them, then best to do through PayPal, that way at least you are covered or better still buy some where else, shall not be recommending.

Just pretty – they don’t last
Initially I loved my Mahabis. They are warm and I have loved how easily I can step into them on arriving home.
BUT, after 8 months wear they are in a terrible condition. There is a hole on the left food by my big toe and on both feet the felt has worn away at the front and the soles have come unstuck around the edges.
I raised this with Mahabis but they say that as they are more than 6 months old, there is nothing they will do.
These are expensive (albeit stylish) slippers, but surely they should last daily use for more than 8 months?
Buy them if you want some slippers to look good on a shelf, but if you actually want slippers that last a while, spend your money elsewhere.

Sadly I’ve been let down by these slippers as well. Loved them initially but my soles kept falling off, and then I discovered two identical tears in the wool along the inside heel where the top edge of the rubber sole was rubbing and eventually cut through the soft wool. I’ve contacted Mahabis and they have sent a standard letter saying that as they are over 6 months old they can’t do anything. I sent photos to demonstrate that there is a design fault and got the identical letter back from them. Tried to phone just now but can’t find a UK number. Rotten service!

slippers suck. customer service sucks. in fact, i was sucked in – by glossy marketing. they never mentioned there are no international returns. none. yes, it says so on their website. you’d think it would be elsewhere — anywhere – while you’re making the purchase. haha, but that wouldn’t help sales would it? so they don’t fit and i’m stuck. can’t find a mailing address for this company – anywhere – otherwise i’d just send them back, refund or no refund. they have cleverly avoided printing their physical address anywhere on their website. anybody want a pair of dark grey 45’s? yeah, 45’s. that’ll be an easy resell…

Also having a bad experience. I washed them in the machine after about 4 months (their site recommends hand-washing but also suggests if you want to use a machine to use a low temp, which I did). They have come out totally mis-shapen, the rubber sole seems to have shrunk which has caused the whole thing to fold in on itself and is now impossible to wear.
Emailed customer services, say they can’t do anything.
Feel totally ripped off. Will go back to the M&S traditional slipper!

I had the same issue just now! I fit squarely in a size 9.5 in the United States (sometimes I go down to size 9 as I have a very narrow foot and want a little extra security). So according to their size chart, I ordered a size 40 slipper which was to be a 9.5/10 in U.S. sizing thinking I would like to have a little extra room so I could layer socks, etc.. I received them this week and they are too small! I submitted for an exchange, and it is going to cost me International Shipping to send them back, then they’ll charge $22 USD to ship me my new ones. So I’m looking at $50 USD to exchange these when I followed their size chart precisely. I’ve written in to customer service to explain what happened, but based on the above, I’m not feeling very confident that I’ll receive a good response. Anyone want size 40, classics, light grey, with ivory soles?

I hate pretentious label stuff but hadn’t actually heard anything about Mahabis when I stumbled across them one day. I ordered some for my hubby for Christmas a few years ago. I was drawn to the idea of a felt slipper that would mould to his broad feet and of course the fact that the felt is wool and would be warm in the winter, cool in the summer and entirely natural. I am always willing to spend more for footwear and crash helmets – you only have one pair of feet and one head! Synthetic fibres are fine in running/cycling gear and so on but feet are important so I took the plunge and I am so glad that I did.
For someone who would never wear slippers, he wears them constantly when he’s in the house and even goes into the garden in them on a daily basis when he’s feeding the animals or emptying the bin. You wouldn’t believe for one second that they are so old. He tells me that they are supremely comfortable and he really does love them. They are absolutely fab – possibly one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. The funny thing is, I had set up an order but not completed the purchase – I might have been tired or distracted – and within a few days, one of their customer services people emailed me and offered me a discount. I don’t care that it was just to make the sale, it made them significantly cheaper for me!
I’m sorry that you had a bad experience, ours couldn’t have been better.

I love felt slippers and shoes (have several), so was considering these. Glad I started checking independent reviews. I wondered, because it’s my observation that companies who do blitz-style ad campaigns often have sub-standard product and service, and sometimes disappear after blitz is over. In that regard, kind of surprised this has been going on a couple of years. Disappearing neg reviews explains that. I have pair of Haflinger slippers I’ve worn every day for about 3 years. They are my house shoes. I had to paint some anti-skid stuff on the soles cause the original wore off (and the soles were accumulating dog hair). Other than that, they are still in pretty good shape. I just wanted another pair of slippers. Guess I’ll stick with Haflinger. Or, make my own felt slippers. I work with wool anyway, and YouTube has vids that show how to make felt slippers. No problem, I’ll set up on the deck now the weather is warmer. (It is a bit messy, but looks like fun.)

Yes same experience here. Got a pair as a Christmas gift – wrong size came. Not heard anything since one email asking me to send a photo of them!
This sounds like a scam as they are legally obliged to replace them if the goods are not what you ordered regardless of the 14 day terms.
I suspect they will go out of business if they are acting like this.

I only wish I had read this earlier as I have the same complaint as many of you about the soles becomging detached and once it happened on the stairs – extremely dangerous. Judging by most responses here, Im not going to have any luck sending them back much less getting a refund. The only good thing is these reviews, just a shame I didn’t come across them before I ordered.

Thanks for the tip
Will think twice about ordering these off them
Retailers should be exposed for their cavalier practices and everyone warned to avoid them
Will go to M&S or John Lewis instead

Hmmm… my size 41 Mahabis are slightly too small and I was thinking about trying to return them (from New Zealand) – sounds like I might be better to try and sell them on. Dark grey, with gotland green soles… They felt lovely when I tried them on and I am very disappointed that they seem to be too small.

I bought a pair for my son for Xmas 2018. I planned in advance and bought them in October when Mahabis were advertising discounted prices. They were opened on Xmas Day and were too large. I requested an exchange but the company says that since I bought them too early, they cannot exchange. They do not reply to my request for a phone number to discuss this. I think the customer service is disgraceful. The company has nothing to lose by exchanging for a smaller size and refuses to even allow me to discuss us this.
